Cheap flight to Romance

sweetness

sweetness

Well, people it’s the week for romance. You’ve got one week to really do it right. AND if you want to take that special someone on a romantic ski trip, Mother Nature is seriously working with you.

Now, I’ve never thought of ski trips as the most romantic activities—maybe it’s because I truly suck and skiing or I look like a boy in my ski clothes. But my man is an awesome skier and he looks hot in his ski clothes AND I must say I have fallen in love many a times with a good-looking man on a ski slope—Swiss and Italian ski patrol for starters.

Heidi and Seal just got back from Aspen ad called their marriage quits. Charlie Sheen tried to kill his wife last year in Aspen. Sometimes it seems like there’s more paparazzi than skiers there, and it’s no getaway.

For a truly romantic trip you need the feeling of a getaway. And with flights to Venice so cheap right now and the recent snowfall, book it baby, book it now.

Here are some ideas if the snow’s the way to go.

Courchevel

It’s easy to get here, we have tons of cheap flights to geneva, and if Courcheval doesn’t make her or him want to marry you, then they should be tossed.

It’s easy to navigate too, so if you don’t speak another language you will not look like a total American goof here. One of four villages in the Trois Vallees area, all connected by the world’s largest cable car, the modern resort of Courchevel was designed with skiing convenience in mind.

Where’s best to stay?

Save money on the flight to Geneva and use it up here! The Grandes Alpes Private Hotel has a fantastic location next to La Croisette lift in the center of Courchevel 1850, and was refurbished to create nine suites with  VIP service. The Hotel Manali in Courchevel 1650, has a large sunny terrace, at the foot of the pistes. Next to The Manali is the recently rebuilt Hotel Le Portetta, a gem of a hotel that’s also inexpensive, so you get the same ideal location for a more affordable price tag. For those on a romantic break, Le Portetta also has a delightfully restored barn for two people nearby, called La Petite Marmotte.

Tips for après ski and dinner
For après-ski drinks, there’s the Le Denali restaurant by the piste at the Grandes Alpes Private Hotel, or stop off at the Cap Horn altitude restaurant  next to the Pralong piste, where you can soak up the last rays of sunshine. Bars Le Refuge and Le Jump are also popular with resort staff and will do less damage to your wallet.

With seven Michelin-starred restaurants here you could do a full week of sampling, but if I had to choose just one it would be in Hotel Le Chabichou, where Michel Rochedy has earned the place two Michelin stars, and has been wowing people since he bought the hotel in 1962.

There are plenty of other excellent restaurants at all levels. Le Praz in Courchevel 1300, where you will find two cracking dining options, and places like Chez Zézette in Villard du Planay, near Bozel where you just grab a cab to. it’s worth it, trust me, and  Zézette is quite a character.

What’s your must-do?
A tandem skydive! A hot air balloon!!It’s worth the cost of the flights to Geneva, I swear to you. The most fabulous view of the Alps guaranteed.

Skiers of all levels will be thrilled by the variety and excellence of slopes available, and they are perfectly leveled for all ages and abilities. And those seeking an international party scene couldn’t ask for better.

Italy anyone?

cortina d'ampezzo

cortina d'ampezzo

Believe it or not Italy encompasses more of the Alps than any other country.

The Dolomite mountains are home to the sophisticated and elegant city of Cortina D’Ampezzo. Slopes are paradise for advanced as well as intermediate skiers, and there are trails for cross-country enthusiasts. Restaurants serve up pasta and risotto. Discos do exist, but dining out is nightlife enough for most. Book a cheap flight to Venice and you’re getting two of the most romantic spots in the world for the price of one.

Celebrities and connoisseurs alike come here to ski and eat and enjoy. Where they’re most likely to stay: the Miramonti Majestic Grand Hotel, former holiday residence of the Hapsburg dynasty, and as regal as the name implies.

Located on the central square, Hotel Ancora provides a warm welcome.

Switzerland

St. Moritz

St. Moritz

The epitome of ski-scene elegance, St. Moritz is where all the romance of the old world is. Book a flight to Zurich, it’s as easy as that!

Sip an après-ski cafe fertig (coffee with a shot of schnapps)… dine at the famous La Marmite… shop at Armani and Cartier. And the skiing’s wonderful, whether down the mostly intermediate-level Nordic slopes or across 75 miles of cross-country trails.

Badrutts Palace

Badrutts Palace

The place to see and be seen when the slopes close for the night is the exclusive and majestic Badrutt’s Palace Hotel. At the Chesa Guardalej, small buildings are connected by underground passageways.

Complete with a spa, Zurich’s Hotel Schweitzerhof is comfort personified.

Hotel Walther is a manor house in picturesque Pontresina, a few km away from St. Moritz
