Ah, Paris in June…. What a huge difference it is between living there (i.e. being stuck) there and hopping on a romantic flight to Paris for the weekend or even booking family tickets to Paris for a week long family vacation, complete with super cool family apartment rental.

Here’s what’s happening this June in Paris.

June in Paris begins the popular and busy summer season in the City of Lights, when the weather is wonderful (though it may still rain) and there’s a festival going on every time you turn around. But if you can get beyond the most touristy places and find yourself a quiet corner in Paris, the warm June air will get into your soul and you’ll feel the city and all its history enter you.

June is festival month in Paris, starting with none other than the….

French Open

French Open

French Open, which generally begins in late May, is often continuing through to early June. Even if you can’t get into see a match, the buzz around it is great. Walk the leafy streets and see everyone coming and going to Roland Garros.

Fete de la Musique

Fete de la Musique

Held on the longest day of the year, the Fete de la Musique is the perfect reason to soak in all that extra sunlight. It’s an outdoor music festival that takes over the cafes and streets of Paris each June 21st, and it’s free!!! You can enjoy the music no matter what part of the city you happen to be wandering around in.So worth a cheap flight to paris from just about wherever!!

Foire Saint German

Foire Saint German

The Foire Saint German usually starts in late May and runs through early July, and is well worth heading over to the Saint German des Pres neighborhood to see. This street fair has its roots in medieval times, and includes music, art, and antiques.

Paris’ Gay Pride Parade occurs in June and is simultaneously a celebration of diversity and one serious street party and so worth a cheap ticket to paris!

And if the Gay Pride Parade doesn’t give you enough of a look at flesh, then check out the Paris version of the World Naked Bike Ride – it’s technically a protest rather than a festival, but how can a bunch of nude cyclists not be fun?

And finally, for all you super cool hipsters looking for what’s new and cutting edge this summer in Paris? Well…

Just in time for the hot weather, the hipsters behind the Paris night spots Social Club and Silencio have brought their brand of cool outdoors. What could be better, right? Located along the Seine, in the 13th Arrondissement, Wanderlust features a sprawling terrace perfect for recreational activities like drinking chilled rosé and people watching.

Wanderlust

Wanderlust

Wanderlust was conceived in the spirit of temporary public spaces like the P.S. 1 courtyard or the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, by the Paris architects Jakob+MacFarlane. On opening night, the French electro D.J./producer duo Cassius was spinning in a neon-tinged cube. Early in the evening, guests sat in slate-gray chairs, the same as those around the Tuileries, sizing each other up across the wood-slatted horizon. There’s a laser light show and video projections, and, voilà, a dance floor or some serious dancing.

In addition to dance parties (Vice Paris plans to hold its fifth anniversary bash there), Wanderlust will host all kinds of events ranging from art, fashion, music, cinema and cuisine. The fashion programming is especially stellar, with the participation of the Musée Galliera, London’s Victoria & Albert Museum and Paris’s tony fashion school the Institut Français de la Mode. Fashion film marathons in the outdoor “theater” (80 seats with headphones) will include a screening of “The Wild One,” starring Marlon Brando.

And there’s fun for the family too…Saturday afternoons there will be workshops for children (kite making, superhero costume construction) and adults (sewing classes with the team from Sweat Shop, the charming cafe couture in the 10th Arrondissement).

Sunday’s possibilities include yoga classes and drop-in sessions with a hairdresser or tattoo artist. There will also be a badminton court, a secondhand-books seller and a once-monthly marché that alternates between food and flea. Wow! If only this had been here when I lived there. The good news is there are tons of cheap tickets to Paris and we have them!

Worth noting is that all of this is FREE!!!!! So book those cheap flights to paris and enjoy the month of June in Paris, and in France. You don’t have to spend money to enjoy.
