Cheap Tickets To Athens-It’s a great time to go

People keep asking me, should we not even think about going to Greece this summer?

And my answer is hell to the no!!! Greece is the perfect place to go this summer. It used to be that Greece was barely affordable.

Athens Acropolis

However, as Greece lurches from economic crisis to catastrophe and the world braces itself for its potential exit from the euro, there’s a growing feeling that the days when tourists could live like a king on a fistful of drachma could be about to return. Seriously if you book your cheap tickets to Athens now, you will be amazed at what you will get on the islands.

Greek Island of Samos

In February the Greek tourist industry was cautiously optimistic about holiday bookings, with the independent market research company BDRC Continental reporting a slight increase in the number of people planning to visit this year.  Travel agents were reporting that prices were already coming down … restaurant, taxis, bars were all cheaper.

But now, just three months later it’s gotten even cheaper. Because of the financial crisis in Athens, there are less bookings and hoteliers have been forced to slash their prices by up to 50%. There is no danger at all on resort islands, it’s still just as placid and beautiful as it ever was. These islands have been through far worse than the Eurozone crisis and Greeks are survivors. So help them out book your next holiday on flights to Athens.

So if you’re looking to go to Europe this summer and don’t want to spend a fortune in France and Italy then do consider Greece. We have tons of cheap flights to Athens and there are incredible deals to be had.

For example, a seven-night all-inclusive stay at the four-star Aquis Marine resort in Tigaki, on the island of Kos, for $500, including flight from London to Athens, for departures in June and September, a 40% discount on the usual price.

Alright, so you know there are great deals to be had and lots of cheap tickets to Athens available but what happens if your bags are packed, the children at the front door waiting to leave for the airport and you hear that Greece has crashed out of the eurozone.

Some experts think this scenario is highly likely, predicting a 75% probability of Greece exiting the euro within the next 18 months. So what this could mean for your holiday?

Will I still be able to go?

it's pretty much unaffected

Yes, of course, unless the airspace and all the hotels are closed, which is highly improbable. They want you to come, trust me, they’re begging for you to book your flights to Athens and spend some time on their islands.

Will I be reimbursed for the trip?

If you have booked independently you may still be covered provided you paid by credit card and the deposit was ÂŁ100 or more, you paid by Visa or Mastercard debit card (and can do a charge back), or have travel insurance which includes end supplier failure in its cover.

What do I do about spending money?

Even if they drop out of the euro, it will take some time for it to be put into practice. Euros could continue to be accepted as legal tender for several weeks, but their value may be different to that in other eurozone countries.

If the country does drop out of the euro it may be that Greek retailers prefer to trade in US dollars or sterling.

You are also likely to be able to use credit and debit cards, although it’s impossible to say which currency your transactions will be made in until it actually happens.

What happens if Greece goes on strike?

You can buy travel insurance which includes cover against costs incurred if there is a strike, For this to be valid you must buy it before a strike is announced.

If your travel insurance does not include strike cover and the strike starts while you are on holiday, how you fare will depend on the type of holiday you have booked. If you have booked with a tour operator chances are you will be completely covered, but if you have booked independently it will depend on your airline as to whether you receive any help. I wouldn’t book with Ryanair.
