Virtual Love On The Road

Virtual love making on the road in 2030….Do I have To?

Architects are constantly looking for new ways to wow the world, and nowhere is this more evident than in the hotel  industry. And Dubai is in the front of the race to the future with their incredible locations, heights, use of glass and water, its dizzying in scale and beauty. But our good friends at Travelodge are going an entirely different route. They’ll probably have the same old brown bed covers and plastic shower curtains in 2030 but they’ll have virtual love making. Yep, and my guess is that all the dizzying heights reached in Dubai won’t hold a candle to cheap virtual goggles.

Here’s what they’re working on for in 2030:

 Virtual lovemaking

  • Dream management
  • Contact lenses to check your emails

You might just want to stay home. Or take a time capsule back to 2011.

Travelodge has enlisted Futurologist/ engineer Ian Pearson to produce this report, entitled the Future of Sleep about what hotel accommodation might look like by 2030. And quite frankly it looks pretty intrusive.

Imagine your hotel monitoring your energy levels, checking your health and mood. Taking it upon themselves to ensure you get a better night’s sleep, even going so far as diagnosing any medical condition you may have and NOT know about YET.

And then there’s your sub-conscience. Apparently your dreams could eventually be controlled, in a similar manner to the film Inception, and we would one day be able to study or learn new languages in our sleep.

Great.

“Video, audio, smells and tactile experiences produced using our bed or bed linen will play a key role in helping to make our dreams feel real,” said the report.

According to Pearson, we will be able to replay our favorite dreams. And that’s not all, no, that’s not all. We will also be able to link into dreams with other people and share a dream experience.  Do you have a dream that you love? Guess what? You’ll be able to replay that one, you’ll be able to choose it like you’re choosing a movie from Netflix.

And then there’s sex, of course. For all those people who travel a lot and go back to an empty hotel room just wishing their partners were there, there’s going to be remote virtual love making. But it’s gets better. You can wear lenses and change the way your partner looks. I guess like a virtual hooker. What ever happened to the book? A little reading never killed anyone, right? I’m not talking Tolstoy but a book? I’m just saying.

“This will enable people to change the image of their partner on a regular basis, and only they will be aware as their lover will not be able to tell what they are looking at,” the report added.

Mr Pearson said that augmented reality – the integration of digital information with the user’s own environment – would allow any surface in a hotel room to display television programs, photographs or paintings. And it’ll be cheap too, he said, possibly available in any budget hotel. Cheaper than an escort and definitely cheaper than a wife.

Tell us, dear travelers, does this sound like cheating to you? Or just plain good, clean, Travelodge sanctioned fun?
