Some Help From The Parents at Best Travel

Some Help From The Parents at BTS Travel

Yes, skiing with little ones requires patience but the rewards to taking your small kids on a ski adventure will last long after the lost glove, or the cry. First of all when skiing Mammoth with beginners, it may be a better idea to stay at Juniper Creek Lodge. Though the idea of being in the Village sounds appealing, and it can be, but for little children not quite ready to go to ski school, the beauty of Juniper Creek is that you can simply walk out your front door, boots on, and you are literally on the baby slopes. Children love going up the motorized rubber ramp and parents can go with them. Up and down, up and down, children have a blast, get over their initial fears with their parents before trying out the ski schools at the bottom of the small hill.

For one level up there’s the pommel lift right next to the smallest slope, so the entire family with all their levels can get acclimated.

For the first day or two, get them used to their skis in the mornings, then walk back to your room, where they can take a nap, rest, eat. And when they wake up, they can sled, tube, go for a dog sled race, snowmobile rides, jump in the pool and steaming hot Jacuzzi before running back into the lobby to sit by the fire with steaming hot chocolates. This hotel is so family friendly, children are free to run to around in ski suits, their bathing suits, there is a large game room on the ground floor as well.

And at night? There’s the shuttle to take you into town. No more worrying about parking or snow, just hop on the free shuttle.

Remember this:

Once you get it down, your kids will get it down to, and each year it will get easier and easier until the whole family is hitting the runs together. Keep at it, the rewards are greater than you can imagine.

Some great things to make your trip great!

  • Children 6 and under ski free!
  • Private afternoon ski lessons for beginners $89
  • And a full day of ski lessons/fun afternoon activities, including meals, 8:30-4:30 for $198.
  • Forget the car! The gas! The fights! Go to www.bts-store.com for cheap flights to Mammoth that start for as little as $59 from LA, San Francisco and San Jose. Once you’re in Mammoth there are free shuttles everywhere, you really don’t need a car.

And keep in mind, there are great deals for great slopes all over the country:

For example: Trips between Dec. 16 and April 3, Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado is offering an airfare credit of up to $400 a ticket for every third person staying at least four nights with a Friends and Family Fly Free promotion. Jackson Hole, Wyo. has a similar deal for every fourth airline ticket, up to $500. The promotion is limited to eight people per party and travelers must book by Jan. 31 and stay a minimum of five nights. When searching for a deal, look for these magical words: When Kids Stay, Or Ski, Free, For Families. Nearly every resort out there offers its own version of children skiing for free or staying or renting for free. Remember, they want you!

Aspen/Snowmass has a Kids Ski and Stay Free deal when adults buy lodging and lift tickets for five nights or more. This year the offer has been extended to March and April for stays booked several weeks ahead. Most ski resorts offer great deals for children 12 and under, and many tie it together with airfare. In some cases boarding passes will double as a lift pass. Check out www.bt-store.com for more ideas on where to go and when.
